What makes tinder so addictive?
Surprisingly, Tinder can be a psychological addiction, that has nothing to do with finding a date or hook up. It’s designed like a mobile game to keep you hooked and coming back. Furthermore, it plays on the human need to be liked, says the online dating expert Dating Advisor.
There are a couple of types of addicts when it comes to Tinder.
- The Shallow Person – this person actually uses the app like it is supposed to be used. They swipe based on if they are attracted to your pictures and what you put on your profile.
- The Right Swiper – this person swipes right on everyone. They have their settings set to their preferred age range and location, but swipe right no matter how the other person looks or what their profile says. These people are looking for an ego boost and people to talk to.
- The Social Media Addict – these people are easy to spot. They have all of their social media accounts listed on their profile and use tinder just to get more Instagram likes and twitter followers.
- The Attention whores – these people know that they are attractive and use Tinder for compliments and ego boosts. They’re not looking for anything serious, and if they are, they won’t stay for long. The call of compliments from strangers is too strong for this type. This type of user may not be model hot, but seek attention in the form of constant talking.
But in reality anyone can become addicted to Tinder. Nearly everyone gets an ego boost from seeing that “you’ve got a new match” popup and it can be exciting to meet new people. Tinder makes it easy to meet various people and go on many dates within the short span of a week. Imagine you are in Dublin over the weekend. With Tinder you can have sex in Dublin those days, no question.
Just the high from getting to know a new person, or multiple new people, is a rush that is enough to make Tinder addicting. It doesn’t help that the app is designed to be similar to Candy Crush or other mobile apps that waste your time.
Just the swiping paired with the ego boost from new matches is enough to bring any common user back. Even if you don’t chat with those matches. It’s simple: Tinder can be addicting to even the most casual user. Then there’s those poor souls who can get lost for hours on end within the simple design of the app.
